Unlocking Data-Driven Decision Making at a Global Scale
Building owners have a unique opportunity to drive the transformation of construction
As a rapidly growing multi-national corporation, Google is building workspaces and other buildings on multiple continents at any given time. In the wake of the pandemic and the ensuing disruption, they set out to standardize processes and create a consistent and reliable project delivery toolkit that can be tailored to the variations in standards found in different regions and countries. The process involved research and interviews with both internal stakeholders and members of their supply chain to find out what sorts of governance would streamline administration and reduce non-productive tasks. Matt Peat, a governance enablement lead at Google, shares the pain points that drove the transformation, the challenges they have faced, and the possibilities for progress that he sees—all of which will ultimately add up to better environments in which employees can work to their full potential. He points out that global building owners like Google have an important role to play in driving transformation at scale and achieving the simplicity, transparency, and data accessibility that can help move the entire construction industry forward.
