Analyze the existing conditions for constructability

Any referenced datasets can be downloaded from "Module downloads" in the module overview.

Task: Initial analysis to confirm constructability

  1. Select the proposal drop-down and choose Add to create a new proposal from the Existing proposal.
  2. Name this proposal Assessment.
  3. From the Manage ribbon > Display panel pull down select Terrain Themes.
  4. In the Terrain Themes panel select the green plus sign to create a new theme.
  5. Name the theme Elevations.
  6. Accept the defaults by selecting OK.
  7. Review the surface elevation banding. Notice that the project should not be going as high as the highest elevation bands above 4000’.
  8. In the Terrain Themes data card with the Elevation theme selected click the Edit (pencil) icon.
  9. In the Elevation terrain theme change the Maximum Value to 4000.
  10. Click OK and observe the surface elevations.
  11. In the Terrain Theme data card uncheck the Elevation theme.
  12. Select the green plus sign to add a new terrain theme.
  13. Name this theme Slopes.
  14. Set the Analysis Type to Slopes.
  15. Accept the defaults by clicking OK.
  16. Observe the surface slope colorization.
  17. In the Terrain Theme data card uncheck the Slope theme. Close the Terrain Theme data card.
  18. In the Create ribbon > Environment panel pull-down select the Suitability Map tool.
  19. Select the Activated Maps pull-down menu and select Create New Map.
  20. Highlight the Suitability Map(1) name and rename it Park Bridge Assessment <ENTER>.
  21. In the lower right select the Add Layer button.
  22. Name the layer Water.
  23. Select the filter icon.
  24. In the top of the dialog check mark (ON) the Water areas and Streams.
  25. Close the Feature Selection dialog.
  26. Click OK in the Layer Settings dialog.
  27. In the Suitability Maps dialog click the Add Layer button.
  28. Name the layer Road and Rail.
  29. Select the Filter icon.
  30. In the top portion of the feature selection dialog select Railways and Roads.
  31. Close the Feature Selection dialog.
  32. Click OK in the Layer Settings dialog.
  33. In the Suitability Maps dialog set the Water Weight slider to roughly 25%, and the Road and Rail Weight slider to 75%.
  34. Click the Apply button.
  35. After observing the Suitability Map turn of the Activate Maps in the Suitability Maps dialog and close the dialog.
