Create and calculate bolt connections
Create bolt connections – Exercise
- Open the Belt Driven Reducer - Fasteners.iam part file from your working folder.
- Activate the Design tab from the Inventor ribbon.
- Select Bolted Connection from the Fasten panel.
- Set Hole Type to Blind.
- Set Placement to On Point.
- Set the Start Plane by clicking on the top face of the flange on the housing cover (shown).
- For Point(s) – select one of the 8 sketch points on the housing cover. The remaining 7 points should be selected automatically.
- Set the Blind Start Plane by clicking on the front face of the blue stand (shown).
- If not already specified, change the Diameter to 0.19 (#10) in.
- Select the Click to add Fastener button at the top of the bolt stack window.
- Use the Category drop-down menu to choose Socket Head Bolts.
- From the list, choose Hexagon Socket Head Cap Screw – Inch.
- Select the Click to add Fastener button at the top of the bolt stack window.
- Choose Internal Tooth Lock Washer – Type A (Inch) from the list.
- Click OK to close the Bolt Connection Component Generator dialogue box.
- Review the bolted connections in the graphics window and make sure all 8 hole locations have been added.
Calculate bolt connections - Exercise
- Open the Belt Driven Reducer - Calculate.iam part file from your working folder.
- Activate the Design tab from the Inventor ribbon.
- Right-click on the Hexagon Socket Head Cap Screw – Inch No. 10-24 UNC – 5/8 component from the Assembly browser and select Edit using Design Accelerator.
- In the dialogue box, click on the Calculation tab.
- Change Type of Strength Calculation to Bolt diameter design using the drop-down menu.
- Enter 1000 for Maximum Axial Force.
- Enter 500 for Maximum Tangent Force.
- Change Number of bolts to 8.
- Click Calculate to generate results.
- From the Bolt Connection Component Generator dialogue box, select the Design tab.
- Notice that the bolt has updated to being a 1/4-28 UNF – 0.75 fastener.
- Click OK to update the bolt connections.
- Right-click on the Hexagon Socket Head Cap Screw – Inch 1/4-28 UNF – 0.75 component from the Assembly browser and select Edit using Design Accelerator.
- In the dialogue box, click on the Calculation tab.
- Change Type of Strength Calculation to Check calculation using the drop-down menu.
- Click Calculate to generate results.
- Click the Result icon at the top right corner of the dialogue box.
- Review the results report.
- Save and Close the model.
