When working in InfoSurge Pro, pipes can have different wave speeds due to several factors, including the liquid used, the pipe material, wall thickness, and pipe internal diameters. In this example, a wave speed is assigned to an individual pipe, and then the wave speeds of multiple pipes are edited as a group.
- Double-click the desired project .aprx file to open ArcGIS Pro.
- Click the InfoWater Pro tab to open the InfoWater Pro ribbon.
- In the Project panel, click Initialize.
- From the map, click pipe 11 to select it.
This is the pipe that will be assigned a wave speed value.
- In the Model Explorer, click the Pipe Wave Speed button.
- In the Pipe Surge Data dialog box, in the Wave Speed field, enter “4200” feet per second.
This value will overwrite the Global Wave Speed field in the Run Manager.
- Click Create to save the wave speed setting and exit the dialog box.
Next, edit the wave speeds of a group of pipes:
- From the InfoWater Pro ribbon, Domain panel, click the Enlarge Domain button.
- From the map, select several pipes—in this example, pipes 22, 122, and 113 are selected.
- From the ribbon, Edit panel, click the Group Editing button.
- In the Group Editing dialog box, enable Domain.
- In the list, scroll to find and select Pipe Wave Speed.
- In the Wave Speed field, enter “1500”.
- Click Apply to overwrite the existing wave speed of the pipes in the domain.
- In the confirmation popup, click OK.
- Click Close to exit the dialog box.
Pipe wave speeds can be calculated using the InfoSurge Wave Speed Calculator, and then assigned as desired to specific pipes with similar criteria.
